On the way into Ubud we past a few signs for BAWA etc and we wanted to stop and visit on the way out. We had a phone number we had found in a Bali newspaper and our driver called it to find the address and we were taken to a place called BARC which is one of the refuge centres. I had tried to email BAWA before we left to try and find out if we could volunteer for a day or bring anything with us but didn't get a reply.
At the BARC office there was a fluffy little black dog whose back legs were paralysed and there was a little wheelchair harness near his cage which apparently had been a donation from Australia. There were numerous other dogs all waiting for adoption or recovering from skin diseases or wounds. There was a puppy section with 4 different litters although only one or two pups in each litter had survived. The lady that showed us around was lovely and you could see they make do with very little (i.e. no running water from the taps)
We made some donations and bought some t-shirts and badges here and felt happy to contribute to something proactive for the Bali Dogs.
