What I was trying to say was that some Western cultural practices are also unusual, so passing judgement on Balinese (or any other) cultural traditions is not wise. Circumcision was the norm in New Zealand until about 20 years ago. But lets set that issue aside.
I think that simple commonsense means you do not mock, criticise or deliberately offend the Balinese and on occasions I have seen tourists do that.
