We have had some experience with the International wing and Sanglah in general.
Our issue was with a friend who suffered a serious illness (appendix burst with complications)
He spent about 2 weeks in various parts of Sanglah, followed by further time in hospital upon return to Aus.
One problem is that everyone is under extreme stress when experiencing this sort of thing, and we all want our friends/familys to get the best of everything....and NOW!!
This does not always happen, either in Bali or anywhere else.
Our experience was that the treatment received by our friend was overall very good.
The facilities were excellent, particularly in the International wing.
Language can be a problem, and communication sometimes difficult.
We were helped in this regard by local friends who visited with us and were able to translate where needed.
Although "third world" whatever that may be, medical facilities are certainly not that backward, for instance many people choose Bali for dental treatments these days, which is an indication of the level of hygene, equipment and professionalism among dentists, and may be duplicated into other medical areas.
If anyone is unlucky enough to end up in Sanglah, in my experience you will receive decent care good enough to get you home for further treatment as required.
Of course there will always be the horror stories, but these are not isolated to Balinese hospitals if bad reports on some Australian hospitals are to be believed.
