Have in your mind what you are prepared to pay.
At Ubud markets I asked the price on a basket, she said 400,000rp, I laughed and suggested 40,000rp, she laughed at my offer, so I walked. Found similar to what I wanted at Briaritz fixed price homewares for 40,000rp, proving I was about to be taken big time. I think fixed price shops are the way to go if you're too worried about the true value of things. Most of all enjoy the experience.
