Non stop anywhere really, including Tuban, Kuta, Legian, Seminyak and so on.
Don't let it deter you.
You will not be out clubbing etc and this is where a lot of the hype comes from.
These places can be busy during the day, but you are never too far from a quieter side street or small warung to stop in at for a breather and a drink.
There are also the larger air con shopping centres to pop into, especially Discovery Plaza in Tuban.
The beaches along that strip are also interesting places, with always something happening to keep you and kids interested and amused.
Just get to ignore the time share and "survey" guys about the place and you would be fine I am sure.
Kuta really isn't the intimidating monster that some make it out to be, and I think that with a child you will be afforded some breathing space too.
