VPN is just the access tool to access your company network.
You use ADSL or dial up to get an internet connection then you get access to your own network via VPN.
A lot of private networks require a digital certificate to authenticate the user before letting you on your LAN.
The speed you will experience is also dependant on what type of application you are using.
If it is only a text based application (ASCII) then it can be quite quick.
However it it is a webpage application it can be quite slow as it has
more data to download in order to display the webpage.
