The school openened in July and has 40 children doing the equivalent of Kindergarten and Reception, although in more formal situations than in an Australian school. Most of the parents are living round the rubbish dump and many are working on the dump looking for recyclables.
The school is privately run and the families don't have to pay fees as all the children are sponsored (many by aussies). When the children move on to government school at age 6ish the sponsors will continue to pay the fees.
The kids also recieve three sets of uniforms and come to school looking terrific.
Bali Care organises the sponsorships - all kids are currently sponsored but it is hoped the older siblings may be able to do catch up classes and then enter government schools eventually.
thanks for your interest.
email open if you want to ask something specific
cheers, Jan
