We ate at a few good restaurants while in Bali, here are a few that I thought were quite good.
Alleycats -
down the alleyway near Piggys on Poppies 2. This restaurant has a great range of dishes. Very cheap ranging from 18,000 to the "Monster Meal" which was the most expensive but still very cheap (from memory around 100,000) - this meal included a large piece of steak, chicken, pork, sausages, bacon, mashed potatoes onions, and a few other things I cant remember. This is a more western type menu with baguettes, burgers (best ever!) although they did have some indian dishes (Matt the owner has an Indian or Pakistan father) - we ate there several times and loved every time.
Because this restaurant is down the end of a very quiet alleyway, its good for small children as you dont have the worry of the road being so close.
Flying Piano
- JL Werkadura. This restaurant is owned by a Swiss man so some of the dishes were typical swiss dishes. They had a huge menu and also make home made pasta (very nice). They had a trio of musicians playing as well as the owner playing a couple of classical tunes on his piano. Free arak attack on arrival (virgin for the children) and meals were very reasonably priced - on average about 45,000. Food was really good.
Ultimos - JL Laksmana - Oberoi.
- This place was well worth visiting. Beautiful italian food, home made pastas, steaks, veal etc, setting lovely, drinks reasonably priced. Starting from 18,000 for appetiser and going up to about 100,000. They have a man in the bathroom that opens the door for you as well as handing you a small towel after you have washed your hands. Very busy - BOOKINGS ARE ESSENTIAL (we tried to book and they were booked out - luckily we showed up and got a table as there were only 2 of us)
Ours
- Garlic Lane - all sorts of food including lots of indonesian/pasta/burgers/anything you could wish for. The boss ate Ribs here every time and they were fantastic and tender. Prices ranged from about 45,000 for most meals. We went here the most - friendly staff as well. Definately a favourite.
Gateway of India
- Beamo corner - this used to be our favourite indian restaurant. Now the prices are the same of a much classier restaurant, so you are paying for a setting you arent getting. Food still good, this was one of the most pricey meals we had (including Ultimos!) dishes are quite small and are about 50,000 upwards
Queens of India
- at the Dynasty Hotel out the front - beautiful ambience, food good, prices about the same as GOI - much nicer place to sit and eat.
Goodies
- Cant remember the street name but right down the end of Padma St (?) on the beach out the front of the Jayakarta - used to be our other favourite restaurant. Now that Bali has gotten busy they have dropped the ball a little. Ribs were tough - used to be the best pizzas but now just average and they mucked our order up quite a bit. Pizzas cheap starting from 25,000 - average price 45,000 for a main.
ocean 27
- Beachfront outside of Centro - Tuban. This was a very nicely positioned restaurant on the beachfront and good to watch the sunset. They have tables and chairs that sit in a shallow pool so you can dip your feet in the water. Bit of a novelty really, food pretty expensive (about 100,000 on average) I had chicken roulade which was pretty bland and hardly any sauce - the boss and the kids meals were average as well, drinks pricey. Nice to watch the sunset at but you can do that for free anywhere. Wouldnt go here again.
We ate at many more restaurants but these are the ones I remember the most.
if anybody has any questions please just ask.
