"oldies" are more resilient than we (or you) may give them credit for.
Look at Geriatric as an example!!
My mother (85) is going over at Xmas and will be staying at Kuta Townhouses.
Although in "Central Kuta" the backstreets really are pretty stress free, and in fact that whole strip right through Jalan Benesari is pretty good in terms of not being hassled too much.
As you know, Legian St is not too bad either, although people may ask you to buy, it is not a frenetic attack because they know more people are right behind you.
To be honest, I wouldn't worry too much and just stay where you would normally (as long as the hotel itself is suitable for older people)
Mum has been a few times before, at White Rose and at KTH a couple of times, and loved it.
