I seemed to open up a can of worms regarding travel insurance . As mentioned in my previous post we got cover for my disabled son last year which was great so I thought . 8 days before we were due to fly I received a phone call from the TA informing me that Garuda were not prepared to take our son unless we filled out their medical assesment forms and declarations . No probs back to the quack got him to to his bit 5 mins and $50 later all good .So I faxed forms direct to Garudas Perth office then received a call asking more questions like how sever is his condition is it life threating , contagious ect I informed them it was a Physical disability and he can self care . All was good with the world and got the ok . When we arrived at Perth checkin you wouldn't read about it more bloody forms something on the lines of Garuda not being responsible for injury to my son during flight . Now I can accept the fact that even though my son can walk he has a good chance of falling over and wouldn't dream of blaming the airline for his misfortune . I do object when you absolve the airline of any responsability that they do not take all care to make sure accidents don't happen . What I mean by this is a story in itself so please bare with me a little longer . Arrived Bali all good no problems whatsoever . However come to departure what a bloody farce more forms to fill in ok good done . Then the biggest stuff up of all time . Come to boarding the plane on to the bus out to the plane and low and behold a bloody great flight of stairs . Now I did mention that our son can walk (like a Penguin) but stairs are another matter, when asked how is he supposed to board the flight crew said he can walk up the steps not many . Not bloody likely I told them he's in a wheelchair for godsake, after much head scratching they solved the problem no not with a scissor lift but with 4 ground crew picking up my 75kg son in his wheelchair and carrying him up the stairs with me down at the base of the stairs ready to catch or soften the blow . Now I was pretty peed off being 2.30am and all so was determined to do something about it when we arrived home in Perth . I wrote a letter to Garuda to voice my displeasure and am still waiting for a reply 12 months later . I think pigs have a better chance of flying than me getting a response.
