If you can get your husband to do a massage, you might want to try one at your hotel first. There are so many wonderful local spas but if you are at all modest, they might not work. The hotel spas often have more criteria to follow (like wearing the paper underwear) and if you've (I am referring to your husband) never had a massage before, this might be easier to start with. Honestly, I prefer the smaller spas because they aren't so worried about covering up (those paper underwear feel quite gross after a massage) but each to their own. Where are you staying?
In Ubud, I love the Bali Botanica Spa. They do a full day package that includes a 2.5 hour Ayurvedic massage which is just amazing. You can google them.
For romantic restaurants, you could try Ku de Ta, The Living Room, Sarong or La Lucciola. For a great meal also try Ultimo but in my opinion, it's not the most romantic place, although I love the food there.
If you get a chance, try and get to a restaurant in Ubud called Sari Organik. It's a walk off the main road (Jalan Raya) but really worth it...even just for the walk. The restaurant is built on stilts overlooking rice paddies...so peaceful.
I was just in NYC for 5 nights...visiting from Calgary. You have a fabulous city and if I had know you before, we could have had a drink and I would have loved to tell you all my favorite places in Bali. We are also about 30 hours from Calgary to Bali so all I can say is...hope you get good seats and can sleep on a plane. After 18 visits to Bali the travel time has still not deterred me from travelling to Bali.
If you want, email me. Just click on my name but take out the 'no spam'.
