for those who have posted that they can't understand why you need to have a religion to get married, it is because under the law in Indonesia you must be one of 6 recognised religions. Those are Islam, Hindu, Budhist, Catholic, Protestant, and Confucian, the latter only being recently recognised.
Atheism is not recognised, and neither is any other religion or belief system (despite the fact that the constitution recognises freedom of religion).
That is the law of the country. The right or wrong of it is open to debate.
When getting married in Indonesia the couple must also be of the same religion, generally (I say generally because there are some famous exceptions).
So, if you want to get married in Bali and have no religion, you have to state you have one - that is just how it is.
My brother and his partner were in the same situation as yourself and decided not to marry in Bali as they didn't want to make vows that were meaningless to them.
