My little neices loved the Bali zoo, as did my 7 yr old. Its smaller and easy to walk thru and has some close encounters that your littlies will enjoy.
Also the boat ride over to turtle island was fun and kids enjoyed the animals there despite us adults being none to happy with the set up !!
When my kids were under 2 I took a small blowup paddle pool(from Kmart) and jug and put it near our balcony / garden (good if you got a ground floor room) and filled it a little and they splashed with toys and plastic cups quite happily while I chilled out and read my book.
I didnt want to be forever in the pool but they did and this was our compramise.
When we went to Thailand I did the same but had to put it near my lounger near pool as we had a room on 4th floor!! My oldest made quite a game out of using sand bucket to fill it from the toddlers pool which was still too deep to leave kids unsupervised in so this was my way of getting a little break.
Also my kids hate long life milk and we found fresh milk imported from Harvey WA in the fridge section of Bingtang supermarket. It also made my early morning cuppa taste just like home !!!
