rather than a capsicum type pepper or chilli. Related to normal blac pepper, but is ling in shape (about an inch) and looks a little scaly almost.
The taste is similar to black pepper but has this extra dimension of fragrance that's really hard to describe, and can't really be replaced.
I use it mostly for making Dutch speculaas biscuits (it's my not-so-secret-now-that-I've-posted-it) ingredient!
