Hi again Im off to bali again for my 7th time and I cant wait we're leaving on the 2nd Oct for 12 days. On my visits there I've befriended a local family who live in a village just outside Dempasar at Pemogan. We met about 6 years ago through a mutial friend. On all my visits there these people have kept me safe and well even when I cant stand up straight, hic!! There are four brothers and their families and mum, who share a small home, there is only 1 of them who's working now he's a driver with a small old car. Two of the other brothers had their local, "cafe Gaul" bulldozed to make way for developers and now dont have a jobs.
On my last couple of visits I have started to take the girls shopping going down to a local shopping centre I usually spend about $200.ooau and I buy them bulk rice, noodles, vegetables, groceries, and shampoos, soaps perfumes for the girls each enough to last about a month or so. They absolutely love it and cant thank me enough. 1 of the brothers has got diabetes and needs medication regulary I try to help as much as I cant finacially but its tough for me too. Last time I was there he nearly died as the local dotor was starving him with water only diet and medication. I almost cringed with the treatment. So I set out to cook for him, I made a pure vegetable soup with all the fresh veges I could find. They had a laugh at me for our western ways of cooking but I persevered in the back yard with a small 1 burner gas cooker a rusty blunt knife and they watched me cook, the whole family and then the neighbours came to watch as well - Oh my god, I felt I was on a cooking show! There must have been a least 30 onlookers When the soup was ready I think the whole neighbourhood came over for a taste test no one had ever tried a westener's cooking before. Lucky for me it was pretty good. After everyone had some I made another small pot full for the brother who was sick, I got them to feed hime a small amount every meal increasing the serve each time. Within a couple of days he started to look much better and stronger. This time I'm going to make spaghetti bog, see if they like that. I also buy gifts here for them which usually are underwear clothes anything that I can find on special that they could use or might need and put them away until the next trip. I think the Perth airport loves me I must be the only one who takes more than I bring back. Anyway hope you enjoy my small contribution.
