Hi heres some advice from a Lovina expat resident - if you are only going for one night - stay in central - either Jalan Binaria or Jalan Rambutan as otherwise you need a driver to get to retaurants etc.
One of the cheapest Hotels is Angsoka - www.angsoka.com
It is just of the main street - walk to bars and restaurants and beach only 150m away. Rooms from 80,000rp fan and cold water or 150,000 aircon. includes breakfast and have a nice pool with bar service. Pulestis is another one or Padang Lovina.
From Lovina do the Hot Springs and Sekumpul waterfall (much better than the ones at Gitgit). Also the hills behind Lovina - Panji Village - are really beaitiful and a chance to see that elusive "real Bali".
A good driver is Gede atat - mobile 081 353 276 247. He can show you his village and take you to see the sights and can intruduce you to all the local food.
I recommend returning via Munduk as it is a really beautiful spot and at the twin lakes they do great (and cheap) ginger tea and fried bananas! Enjoy.
