Just got back and planning on a JBR including the bike tour soon.
The van did follow us and nobody needed to use it.
I was surprised when Wayan told us we had travelled 26km on the ride.
95% is downhill - I recall three hills that needed some gear changes to get up them, but nothing too strenous.
The children along the route all want to say hello and high-five you along the way, but I kept my hands on the bike, as I could see a disaster if I tried to do it one-handed.
I'm not a bike rider, so it's easy for a novice.
They did mention the cooking class and that they need a few people to do it on any particular day, but we didn't ask more questions, as we scoffed down the delicious meal. If you stay in Ubud, you could do the bike tour one day and the cooking class the next, that way you get to experience the best of both experiences.
Book the tour and enjoy the scenery - it was a highlight of our trip.
