6 months validity on passport "from leaving date" is specified when trying to enter most countries.
Most of the checkin staff will pick notice anything less than 6 months and the airline can refuse to take you, they know that it can become a s...t fight at the other end and they dont want have to take an unhappy punter back home.
With more people booking their tickets online many months in advance it's not surprising that this 6 month validity issue is rearing its head. (If they used a good travel agent they woukd be reminded).
Buyer beware.
