Not sure who you booked with but I think most airlines will let you cancel the tickets and keep the amount as a credit for you to use next time you want to travel. I know its not ideal as you probably need the money to really book the tickets.....if you can leave it on your credit card temporarily you still have a trip up your sleeve!!!
