If you get into Bali at night then stay overnight somewhere close by-if not you are going to take an hour to get to the Denpasar terminal and then depending on buses you could be sitting around until the morning-not something I would recommend as the terminal is not user friendly (ie few facilities).
There are no really official timetables for buses that I have ever seen over many years but if you get to Ubung terminal from 9.00ish on there will be buses going.Even if you are told a bus is going at say 11 it will not actually move until it is full or the river considers that either no one else will get on or no one else can get on!! so be prepared to sit and wait.
Try to remain calm at the terminal!! It is a very pushy place and people will be trying to get you onto a bus and you are reponsible formaking sure it is going to the right place.double and triple check with both the ticket seller and the driver and other people on the bus if need be.
There are many companies and they all go to different parts of Java so you will need to check at the little wooden ticket offices.
You can also go to an agent near where you are staying and book a bus which will take you over from south Bali. Make sure that it is a shuttle bus over to Java not just to Ubung terminal.
Big tip- toilets on buses in java stink to put it bluntly- I always ttake some Vicks rub and put it aorund my nose to take away the smell!! Also be prepared for buskers on the buses and they will hit on you- make sue that you have some coin or small demonination notes for them.Take a shawlor jumper they love having the ACon high as and it gets freezing!
All in all I love bus travel in Indonesia- you get to meet some great people and see such a huge amount but it can be very tiring and if you dont have the language can seem too much -but persevere it is worth it.
