You would see the ducks lead by an old village man...all waddling along in a straight line..he would have a long piece of bamboo to keep them in line... and before you say, no he wasn't hitting them. They would hit the rice paddie and go wild eating the worms or bugs , I guess ... a wonderful sight... I would love to watch. Years later the Indonesian Government put an advertising program out on TV to teach people to queue up....ofcourse they used the picture of the man leading the ducks to the paddies.. I used to love it...so logical and very effective. Before this and for some time after, some may say still, I would go to the bank, no queues just a pack of people fighting for the counter, after 20 minutes waiting, you might think ahh my turn...when someone or two or three would pass their bankbook over your head, right past you and it would be taken before you. I learnt Indo very quickly in those days and those behind me were often shocked to hear a westerner say, as we were known then, [before you flame me] Saya duluan, I'm first.
