if anyone calls your telstra number while you are overseas it charges you, for the pure fact that someone can turn around and say 'well i didnt know they were over there'....ive had this conversation with them before - its silly i know - bali sim cards are always the way to go, the shop assistant sets ours up for us whenever we go - we use our old nokia phones and leave our normal phones in aus - we leave numbers of the hotel for family left in aus to contact us if needed, but have the sim cards there for sms msgs to people back home
