it was just not what we wanted. Beach was okay but mostly rocks and reef close to shore - so great for snorkelling but not so good for swimming especially when wanting to wade with a baby. The area is quite dry and quite dusty and can be a bit smelly as a lot of people seemed to have chickens and pigs in the kampung - and as we like to go on long walks it was not the nicest environment for pleasure walks.
The area is quite spread out and good restaurants are not that easy to walk to on the undulating narrow roads.
In my youth i was happy for this type of holiday but now that i work hard for most of the year i like my holidays to be in nice, green, tropical parts of Bali where everything comes fairly easily.
But as always it is such a subjective thing - many people on here rave about Amed where as i thought it was pretty average !!!
