my husband lived and worked there for 2 years working in the construction industry building villas and hotels for a western owned company. there are many jobs available in the hostpitality industry at high end levels such as mangers, PR, Marketing etc. you have to have a lot of patience regarding the traffic and the people , bali time applies alot ! very different from being on holiday. not that hard to find rental properties in good locations. i guess ultimately which lead to him leaving was terrorism. he had a terrible accident whilst surfing , surfboard point went into his ear damage to skull and eardrum etc. he was disaticefied with the service at BIMC so got his ear packed and flew home kind of against medical advise, i tell the you drive from the air port to Royal Perth hospital was not a pleasant one. which was quiet timely as the next night the first bali bombs went off in the sari club and paddys. so this was the end of a lot of work for him and the company as projects did not wish to continue after this. Best thing to do is learn the local language, great tutors over there, respect the village culture where you are working and learn patience and tolerance, they do things very different in bali. great adventure and learning experience. only strengthened our love of bali still travelling there couple of times a year !
