Interesting question! I tried to find out the answer to this a few years ago. After much research I discovered that the legal age for purchasing alcohol (duty free or otherwise) in Australia is 18yrs (as we all know), but the legal age for purchasing alcohol in Bali is 16yrs. The legal age for drinking alcohol in bali is indeterminate.. ie ïf your old enough to drink, you can drink" it is a very loosly policed rule. So this being the case is the air side of denpasar terminal "no mans land" and the "18" rule exists or do the laws of Bali (Indonesia) apply and 16 becomes the legal age? Dont know if I would want to apply the law at this airport after a long flight, long queue's and grumpy immigration/customs officials. Maybe the easiest way to get that extra bottle is to risk it or pay the "tax"(a small donation in that little room around the corner from customs) Either way have agood holiday!
