You could stay in Kuta Lombok which is predominantly surf, local cafes and good beaches. Senggigi has bigger hotels and you could score a reasonable room before Xmas at Senggigi Beach or Santosa that both have pools and in the thick of the small tourist stretch that also has live music and a few nightclubs but the beach not so good. Alternatively you could move over to Gili T for snorkelling, lazing and nightlife.
