and had no problems with getting tables at restaurants but as others have mentioned we could not get a taxi. We were staying in Tuban at the time and could usually convice them to take us to seminyak (sunset road way) but no one would take you to Kuta or Legian.
As long as you are staying in the area that you like to shop and eat you'll have not problems. Basically as long as you can walk there you'll be fine.
Also if you are going to waterbom try and go before or after as it is very very busy at that time.
In saying that we had no problems with the restaurants etc it is a lot busier now in general and you do need to book for some of the restaurants in seminyak (chandi, sarong etc)
