When your iPhone searchs for your mails at whatever settings you have it, whether that be every 30 or 60 minutes or so, it does so because there is wi-fi in the area..and as Telstra explained to me...even though you might not connect to the wi-fi (if no password) you still get charged by the Indonesia carrier at international rates, as your phone is with Telstra here. My phone bill showed a connection every 60 minutes which was crazy, when I wasnt even using it. I cant really explain much more than that, but I thought $1300 for 12 days in Bali with an iPhone I hardly used was a rather rude surprise when I got home, so be good to learn from my experience and not your own. How many trips can you get to Bali now for $1300.....heaps!! LOL
