Some of you (vainer) ladies might be interested to know about a hair treatment I had in Melbourne before leaving for Bali that was absolutely amazing. It meant I had lovely straightish hair - with NO frizz - the entire time I was there and did not need to bring my hairdryer or straightener. I would recommend this in particular for people going for a special occasion like a wedding.
It's called the Global Keratin Treatment, and I think it goes by other names like the "Brazilian Blow-out" (the mind boggles!) I saw Johnny Andrean in Bali had something on the menu called "Silk bonding" which is no longer available. I wonder if it was the same thing?
There are hardly any places in Australia that do it - and none in Bali that I'm aware of. I got it done in Melbourne at Salon Shique. I think there is only one other salon in Melbourne that does it.
It involves ironing protein into your hair. It is not permanent - it lasts a few months, depending on how often you wash. What's great about it is that it actually improves the hair's condition and can be done on bleached hair. In fact, the more screwed up your hair is the better it works, apparently. Apparently it builds up in the hair with each treatment so it lasts longer each time you do it.
It doesn't make the hair poker straight (I'm not a fan of that look) but a lot straighter and less frizzy. Basically, it's given me the slightly wavy, silk hair I've always wanted. I can blowdry much much faster too.
It's not without its down sides: it costs a lot (over $300 for long hair), it eventually washes out, it doesn't like chlorine and you have to use special shampoo and conditioner on it, but for me it is worth it.
