I have never rated Bali as being an idylic beach spot.
In fact Lombok is much better.
However, it's about icons and atmosphere, and sitting on a plastic stool under the trees next to an ice filled Bintang esky watching the sun go down is as good as it can get for some.
If you went to Seminyak on one of those January days when all the rubbish has blown up (From Java of course.....NOT from Balinese villages washed down in the rivers) then it can look pretty ordinary.
However, if you went there just now I would imagine that it's far from the worst beach around.
Given the choice between Seminyak and Blackpool I know where I'd rather be!!
