Restaurant food and drinks are fixed price but often restaurants will have special buffet/show nights and the price of these can be to put it bluntly quite stupid. Usually they have someone at the door handing out flyer's and these are the people to ask, we just say ooh that's expensive etc etc and they will happily offer a discount if they can, we once got it half price!
Depends where you are going but if you travel off the path a bit up north etc. and go to a small shop know the price of water!! also if someone is walking around selling drinks/snacks they will try and get the biggest price if they can. LOL I can just see someone asking $8 for water then looking at me to see how I will react.
Larger supermarkets have all the items priced so go there and get an idea first.
If you are in a situation where you think something is over priced but feel strange/rude about bargaining just ask "is this fixed price?" then um and ah and tell them you think that seems very expensive in a polite conversational way, not with accusation at all, this gives them a chance to change the price if they want to, they will let you know and if it remains to high just smile say thanks for their help and walk away, all good, no worries!
