What happens within the hotel will depend on the hotel itself. Yes, as someone alese has sadi there will be 'special' meals on the day instead of the usual restuarant a la carte, and yes, at a 'special' price so do stock up on snacks. Kuta shuts down for a round 3 days as most people home to their villages. Some shops will start to open after 2 days. Tourists are wandering the streets like lost sheep, especially if they were not forewarned. It is a few years since I did Nyepi in Sanur so I cannot remember for how long the shops were shut. They do have an ogoh ogoh parade, just ask the locals which streets it goes down. I spent ages sitting on the footpath waiting for the parade only to discover it didn't go down the main drag. Personally I won't go to Bali again at Nyepi.
