Often keep their maiden name. I'm guessing that as the passport shows both maiden and married names it may be OK.
However, given that she's travelling on an Italian passport suggests to me that she's NOT an Australian Citizen (Otherwise she'd have to leave and enter Australia on an Australian passport) if this is the case I'd be more worried that she has an re entry visa.
