Monday 10th August 2009
This trip there was myself (Jacqui), hubby (Mark), our almost 15 year old daughter (Caitlin), our 9 year old daughter (Jaimee)and 2 Rotarians (Steve and Dave) from my Rotary Club travelling. This was my 5th trip, hubbies 3rd, our daughters' 2nd and the first for Steve and Dave.
We arrived at Adelaide Airport at 7am to check in for our flight and to meet Steve and Dave. After a quick coffee we proceeded through customs and I purchased the Jim Beam and cigarette supply I needed for the trip. The 3 boys were only going to Bali for 7 days however the girls and I were staying on until 28th August so I needed to make sure I had enough to last the time we were away. While going through customs the girls noticed Poh from Master Chef in the line behind us. They were very excited and while I was stocking up on duty free they managed to get a photo taken with her.
We departed Adelaide at 9.25am with Pacific Blue. Flight over was uneventful. The kids had their portable DVD players which turned out to be a blessing as their was no in-flight entertainment on this flight. Arrived in Bali about 25mins early at 1.05pm and had a reasonably easy transition through VOA and immigration. We were out the front of the airport by 2.00pm. We were picked up from the airport by our friend, Made and headed off to Sanur to our accommodation. On the way we had a couple of quick stops to have some money exchanged, stock up on some supplies and purchase a sim card. By 3.30pm we arrived at Sanur Beach Villas which was a base for the first few days. We stayed in the 2 bedroom villa while Steve and Dave shared a room on the opposite side of the pool.
We relaxed under the tree of knowledge enjoying a few bevies for a while to settle in. After a few hours Steve and Dave headed to Kesumas on the beach for dinner while we headed to Cat & Fiddle Restaurant. We enjoyed our first dinner here while listening to the band that was playing. Kaytee got up and sang a few songs with the band. The band members were pleasantly surprised that she could actually sing and encouraged her to pick more songs to sing with them. Several of the other patrons at the restaurant also came up to us and commented on her singing ability.
As we were all tired from a day of travelling and being up early we headed back to SBV for an early night.
Tuesday 11th August
Today we were up very early as we were still running on Adelaide time. We enjoyed a great breakfast by the pool. Steve and Dave planned a day with Ron experiencing his 'cultural' tour while we headed off to Waterbom Park for the day.
We arrived at Waterbom Park at about 10am and found even by this time all the cabana's were already booked. We easily found ourselves some pool lounges by the pool bar though. Mark and the girls enjoyed several hours going on all the waterslides etc. Jaimee proved to be a dare devil and was not hesitant to give any of the slides a go. She went on smashdown and the boomerang by herself and couldn't get back on them quick enough.
I'm not a waterslide person and was happy to stick to the lazy river and the pool. I did however manage to phsyc myself up enough to give the 'boogie board' slide a go. We left here at about 2.00pm as we had a dinner meeting with the Rotarians from the Sanur Rotary Club at 7.00pm and decided to grab a couple of DVD's before heading back to SBV to have a quiet afternoon. Mark and the girls ended up with 27 DVD in a matter of seconds and have now been banned from entering another store for fear of the damage they could do given any length of time in one.
After a few hours relaxing and a nana nap for me we headed to Apa Kabar Restaurant in Sanur to meet up with the Sanur Rotary Club for dinner and a meeting regarding the upcoming Distribution Day on Saturday 15th. Jaimee was absolutely smashed after the day at Waterbom Park and consequently fell asleep on Mark's lap before the meals even arrived. Steve and Dave were also supposed to be at the dinner but as Ron had taken them on his special tour this afternoon they were missing in action as a result of being introduced to Bintang and large amounts of it at that. With all plans in place and a nice meal under our belts the staff we went back to our villa at about 9.30pm for some much needed sleep.

More to come
