i have seen the petition and signed it. Also had a fundraising lunch in my town and we have raised $1000 - met with Professor when I was in Bali and was able to give it to her. Money is certainly needed to buy the medication, but also spreading awareness so that there is pressure from countries outside of Indonesia on their government to support the work she is doing. Also by spreading awareness, other people who have ideas and skill come forward to contribute. I have a friend who works at a major private hospital who is negotiating for the hosp to donate drugs etc. Prof Suryani is also training local volunteers in the villages and also working to eradicate pedophilia and treat the victims. She has been made aware that Australian pedophiles are now operating in Bali as Thailand has become more difficult. She was also shocked to discover that it is also an issue within the Balinese community. Very distressing. Another friend in Perth is also planning a big fundraising dinner/dance soon to support Suryani Institute and show part of the doco to increase awareness (she is a chef and has lots of contacts)... maybe others would like to do something or buy tixs when they are available. Prof Suryanin is a lovely humble, tenderhearted and very astute woman, her son and team are likewise - a cause really worth supporting - the mentally ill are the forgotten people of Bail - hard enough for people with mental illness in Australia!
