Make sure that the GSM phone that you take from Australia is unlocked.
I made the mistake once of taking a locked Motorola C201 phone to Bali. None of the shops in Bali could unlock it.
I will be taking another Motorola C201 phone (Coke phone) with me in September. This time the phone is unlocked.
