Sorry I did not reply straight away, computer and I don't see eye to eye lol.
We are flying Jet* both legs and the savings are on the Garuda quote, but the quote with Jet* direct was almost the same, so by breaking the trip we are saving heaps. The only drawback is the return trip which gets into Darwin at 3am and the flight back to Sydney is not until 9am.
Lets hope there is good seating at Darwin Airport for the waiting until 9am, I will post after the trip, but its not till January next year.
