in Bali and stayed at the Padma from 23/12 to 31/12 then Hard Rock from 31/12 to 9/1. Had a ball. We were lucky with the weather mostly and it did not rain too much during the day, mainly at night. We had a few wet days but nothing really to complain about. In Bali they tend to do dinner on Christmas Eve or Christmas Night, not the traditional lunch we are used to. We had a "brown" (in the words of our 5yo) Santa give out cookies in cellophane to the kids at breakfast and were serenaded with Christmas carols. We really enjoyed just kicking back at the pool during Christmas Day and finding a nice seafood restaurant for lunch. New Years Eve was a hoot in Kuta, we got a complimentary dinner at the hotel then went over to Kuta beach along with 1/2 of Indonesia. The locals were firing off fire works from the beach over the water and for a week beforehand the hawkers are selling colourful cardboard trumpets in all shapes and sizes which EVERYONE blows all night on New Years Eve. It was fantastic. Kuta is in absolute gridlock as all the Javanese come over for the festivities and the place goes off. Our 5yo just loved it and especially enjoyed being allowed to make as much noise as she liked without being told off. Everyone is in a great mood and it is a fun family nigh. Nothing closes unlike here. Hope this helps.
