You will notice that the vast majority of lookers / buyers are Indonesians, as they have cultural reasons for buying gold, and also use it as a bit of a security when the rupe may be insecure.
The traders would not want to upset domestics by selling dodgy stuff.
I do believe that the traders here are generally honest, but usual cautions apply as with anywhere.
You should also always ask for the correct weight and purity of the piece to be put on the receipt, and this is generally provided.
There is always a small amount of discount there from the original price, but usually only a couple of per cent as the prices are normally quite tight....ask for "the best price" after initial price.
Maybe start with something just a few grams (earings or anklet etc) and don't forget to take your calculator.
Tip: go into the first shop (Boribodur if coming from Ramayana direction) and ask for the price per gram for 70%.
This will give you an indication of the price of a piece that has a tag on it showing the weight in grams....saves asking all the time.
