Over the years my son has bought fireworks and mostly taken them to Lembongan and Lombok. he puts on shows for the locals and they love it. I agree that its all a bit of fun but you can see what sort of reaction you get when you just ask the question, most of the people on the forum that would let off fireworks don't post because of this. Things have tightened up more recently though so if you are going to do it, I would let them off if you are staying places outside of the major tourist areas.
