according to a TV show will only get worse in Australia as banks are reluctant to let go of the magnetic strips. You must do two things
1. Look for a green flashing light where you you put in your card. A skimmer will block the light
2. Cover your pin as you enter it.
I normally do this but was in a rush and let my guard down. It only takes once, I checked the machine immediately, thought that because there was no flashing light light (got my wires crossed) that it was a good sign.
3. Change your card ( if the bank has them) to the cards with the chips. Unfortunately my everyday account does not have it but my other bank's credit card does. They skim the magnetic strip and not the chip.
