We were there late Dec till mid Jan last year.
Had an absolute awsome time. The rain wasn't too bad whilst we were there, but by the time we went home the rain was really setting in (around 13th Jan) - lots of flooding of roads, villas etc...
It did rain heavily most evening but it was over and done with quite quickly or it was whilst we were sleeping.
As the others have mentioned the traffic is awful. Takes hours to get anywhere. My best advise would be to ensure that you get accommodation very close (within walking distance) to the places you like to frequent for shopping, eating etc.
