Balian is very isolated. It is probably best to hire your own car otherwise you are fairly stuck once you get there. There is another break on the other side of the rivermouth that is walking distance but other surf breaks are quite a distance away. medewi is probably the best other break and is about a 20 minute drive.
Balian is a great place to get away from the crowds and have some peace.
