we left our 13yr old at the hotel by herself as she was not feeling well. She had the phone to call us if needed and the hotel staff knew her. when we got home she was sitting out the front of the room (as this is the only place we could get internet access) and said she felt safe and was ok. I would not do it on the first day or two but after that the hotel staff know you so it should be ok.
I do like Crackers advice. Realistically though only you know your children well enough to know if you could do this without the 13yr old feeling like a baby or her getting into trouble. Good luck!
