There are only 2 entries to the apartments. One is through the Coffee Shop, so past the reception area and staff. The other is a locked gate in the gang that leads to the beach. In August there are lots of owners in residence so not too many 'strangers' wndering around at all. In fact it's very difficult for anyone not staying there to gain access without providing proof of who they are and who they are visiting. I have left my children there on numerous occasions if we have wanted to have dinner elsewhere (never far mind you). I advise the staff that they are alone and may order ice cream or whatever from room service. The staff are fantastic and have always kept an eye on them. I would tell your daughter they are to stay in the apartment and watch movies and not go to the pool. The staff could monitor this as well. I would be less concerned in a small complex like Beach Melati than in a large hotel where the daily turnover of staff between shifts is large and you would have problems asking anyone to keep an eye on the kids
