A bemo is a small van or pickup truck with seating. They used to be the major form of transportation in Bali.

Bemos used to wait for passengers at the corner of Jalan Legian and Jalan Pantai Kuta. There is a shrine in the middle of the intersection. This spot is known as Bemo Corner.

A few years ago bemos were moved a block up Jalan Pantai Kuta away from the beach. Bemos no longer wait at Bemo Corner.

For the sake of nostalgia, I tried to catch a bemo to Denpasar this year. I asked the locals in Kuta for the cost of the normal fare to Denpasar. None of them knew the fare as none of them catch bemos any more. They use cars and motorcycles.

But for the sake of nostalgia, I persisted and waited in the rain, a block up from Bemo Corner. No bemos appeared. I gave up and caught a taxi to Denpasar.
