We've had this exact issue up here for the last month...albeit with a few more kids.
Ours are 15 down to 2 years.
The way we have stepped around our eldest kids pride on the odd night that we have gone out is to tell them that the babysitter is only here for the little ones. They are free to sit there and read or watch movies, go to bed etc without the hassle of the babies, yet we know that they are also being looked after.
