Bali Day 3
Starting to adjust to Bali time now gotup at 5am lovely sleepin. Need to getup this early even if could sleepin later as everything always seems to take so long to do here. By the time I have a shower put on my beautiful Bali tan (Courtesy of Johnson & Johnson fake holiday skin, going well so far will let you know if I turn orange), put on face, get dressed, sort out stuff from bag I stuffed in there yesterday, repack bag; try to find conversion chart, tidy rupiah (swear im going to put in order as I get change the next day) work out how much to exchange today and remove from safe, tidy room ive just messed up and finally sit out on verandah and type up what I did yesterday. Then its time to wakeup daughter and go down and see if others are ready before I start to eat my arm which has been looking particularly brown and tasty as I have been typing.
Brekkie delight again, girls got tea too and weren't as impressed as me but they prefer cola to tea anyway. Had omelette v nice but just tasted and looked like scrambled eggs with the lot I had yesterday (except all in one piece), will try poached eggs tomorrow. Sis-is-law had poached eggs and they were beautiful. Others could not believe memory of our waitress. She remembered what we had ordered yesterday including noticing my sis-in-law had not eaten her eggs as they were too hard boiled (didn't think to ask for them to be runny) and asked when she ordered the eggs poached if she wanted them lightly poached so runny. She remembered my daughter liked her omelette plain, niece liked hers with tomato and I just wanted everything in everything (or could she tell this just by looking at me - hey I lost 7kgs in last couple months). Brekkie beautiful again.
Got even better exchange rate today at Kodak on jl Raya next to Animal Clothes shop $1AUS = 7,850rp. Again best rate we saw all day this is going to be a bit hard to keep up, others think I am just brilliant knowing where to get best rate and wont believe me its mostly just plain luck.
Markets today. Had talk to newbies about markets and warned them not to buy first price and to think what they wanted to pay and work from there, but be careful not to look too interested in something they loved and if they said a price they should pay even if they change their mind. We had practiced on street shops with discounts and buying stuff yesterday. After a while I realised I must of scared them as they were not talking at all and just quiety following us as we bargained. Told them don't worry forget most of what I said and have fun.
We had a great day they loved the markets and loved haggling over a price. Helped a bit that a lot of what they had bought I knew roughly what to pay as id bought it or someone I was with had bought it in previous years.
We bought; silver bangles bought 2 each and paid 60,000 which seemed a good price. Later saw metal bangle I liked and man wouldn't come down from 120,000 I told him why would I pay that when I had just bought the silver bangles I was wearing for 50,000. He told me I was a liar he knew price of silver and I could not get for that price. Let his stall upset particularly as I then remembered that I had paid 60,000 each and I had lied unintentionally. Funny though as a couple of hours later we were looking at silver at markets and lady asked how much we paid for bangles and I said 60,000 and she said I have buy more same price, I thanked her but said to many already. She then said 200,000 for 5 (all stamped 925). They must buy silver at cheaper price downstairs than upstairs at markets. What the heck we all bought another 5 bangles cant have too many as the lady pointed out.
New style dress and tops. Dresses stripey and made with rayon 75,000 tops 70,000 probably paid too much but looked divine on daughter and niece. Batik pants 20,000, sequined thong sandals 30,000, dress rayon old style short 30,000, white elastic cotton trousers 25,000, crocheted top 60,000, batik top 40,000, pretty shoulder bags with and without zippers 25,000, pretty dress 35,000, Batik thick old style pants 25,000 (didn't try on until I got back and looked like clown could fit two of me in them), pendant with 2 stones 100,000, white man blouse 25,000, shell butterfly pendant 125,000, moth shell broach 50,000, bangle style watch with spare battery 35,000, spider watch 30,000 (love these watches reminds me of happier times).
Harmony ball with stone 65,000, turtle silver ring 65,000, cat broach and spider broach 120,000 (was tired by now and thought I was saying lower price until it came out of mouth and then too later - don't matter I really like them), wooden bottle opener 20,000, glitter dress 30,000, old bali top 20,000, tie pants 30,000. Think I must like buying jewellery with animals and insects after reading this over.
Toilet and drink stop at Moka Café on jl Raya. Lovely clean deli style place. Kids got chocolate sundae and didn't like as bali style chocolate inside, mango juice ok, French fries yummy, guacamole dip with homemade ccs very spicy but ok. Not wrapped in food or drink here, usually get yummy little cakes, will come back though as clean and cool, great service and nice ambience, feel like we are in café in France when there.
Tried to go to Café de artisoles for tea again, back paced to the rafters again will try to book for tonight. Caught transport to Wayans 20,000, and walked to Bali Pesto v nice meal; mixed satay nice but got prawns with it and not impressed by their taste (hope ok tomorrow), Crisy chicken and chips yummo chicken melted in mouth v tasty too, beef stroganoff told v nice, ceasar salad v nice dressing. Drinks cheap; bali wine 20,000 and yum, capriroska lemony, sugar around rim and nice. Nice dinner ambience great music lovely and will go there again, love price of wine.
Drinks at Mumbuls jl Raya. Black Russian nice (tasted a little watery), Caprioska brown colour palm sugar limes ok tasting. Have been going here for years, went on their opening week so tradition to go back, love where it is can see people going past, ambience great and will try there again when back here in August ( didn't I mention im booked again with mum and sis, cant go without me....)
So tired when finally got transport home 20,000 from bali pesto, straight to bed, daughter woke me a few minutes later telling me to put down my book and go to sleep, Oh well plenty time to read when I get home.
