Bali Day 2
Brekkie at Samhita Gardens is great. Choice of fruit juices, plate each of fruit salad - honeydew, watermelon, banana, lime, pineapple and papiya (not sure how to spell - spellchecker doesn't know either- it's the yummy orange one not rockmelon or the one that smells like vomit) must say best grade of fruit I have ever had in Bali, banana just like ones in Ozzie. Choice of how eggs cooked, boiled -sis-in-law got and tomorrow will ask for soft boiled, Scrambled rest of us got, I had mine with the lot - mushrooms, tomato and onion very nice, basket of toast and croissants - croissants 2 plain and 2 with chocolate inside, I don't like chocolate but niece said was nice, plain one verry yummy choice of spreads - honey, jam and orange marmalade, nz or French butter. Choice of Tea or coffee. I asked for tea and was served plate with 3 teabags; Twinings English Breakfast tea, Lipton Yellow Label tea and Twinings Green Tea & Mint. What a delight. I usually only have a cup cause its warm and nice with toast but this was wonderful. I had the English brekkie tea with my fruit salad, the yellow label with my eggs and finished in heaven with green mint tea and honey croissants yum yum yummy.
Quite satisfied off we went shopping. Samhita Gardens in great spot just quick walk down lane and onto Jl Raya. Bought postcards 3,000 and 3,500rp stamps for postcards to Ozzie 6,000rp. 2 books on Indonesian language - 'The easy way to master the Indonesian Language'(written for English speakers) 40,000rp and 'The simple daily conversations' '(written for Indonesian speakers) 20,000rp better selection and price than hunting through shops in Ozzie also I like getting ones that teach Indonesians to speak English as you can see their sentence structures and why they speak English the way they do - they read one of these books!
Exchanged money on Jl Raya at Kodak (one in back of dvd shop) got rate $1 = 7,850, best rate we saw all day. Spent the day meandering into and out of the shops letting the others see what is around and prices on the street before we hit the markets tomorrow.
I bought a painting of 2 birds looking down a valley, 175,000rp probably too much but couldn't get price any further down. Just realised that is all I bought, I must be slipping.. Bought by others; large silver pendant of fish swimming 160,000, beaded strapey sandals with heels 120,000, craved shell pendant with beaded strap around neck 10,000, bracelets 10,000, black earrings sort of shelly - impossible to put in as goes on both sides of the ear lobe and cant see hole in ear to put through as earring in the way, live n learn - 40,000, wooden ring with metal spider on it 45,000 put in bag and when got out to put on, spider all bent out of shape - well aren't we learning all the time.
Lunch at Café Wayan. Very bestest yum meal and drinks. Ive been to this restaurant a couple of other times and the first time a gourmet delight the second time ok and now back to a yummy meal.
The drinks were just about perfect - Cosmic Colada 38,500 coconut pineappley refreshing and creamy, Strawberry crush 38,500 tasted liked fresh strawberries, Aga white wine 43,000 lovely light tasting local wine, Capa Roska 45,000 lemon juicy but sweet (no they are not just my drinks). (Prices not include tax)
Mixed satay, look, this is the best I have ever had and Ive had a lot. Meat marinated in some sort of soy sauce mixture, peanut satay to dip in, although sometimes I didn't as meat was so tasty, Carbonara nice and creamy with mushrooms, Margarita pizza thumbs up from my neice lovely cheesy and tomato taste. Bill total 228,000 for us 145,000 for others (well ok maybe a few of the drinks were mine).
Afternoon tea and drinks at Café Lotus. Banana fritter with icecream nice and soft and tasty, chocolate mousse tasty. Drinks - Tropical Moon yummy, Caprioska yummy lemony. Good about this place - free wifi so could send in stuff to BTF and everyone could email, ok food and drinks, but service there not good. Been here 2 other times and each time service bad, waitresses take ages to serve you - one time waited for ever then got sick of waiting to place order and we finally just got up and left. Today waitresses kept trying to give us other peoples meals and drinks then took ages to get the bill the when got bill the printout was not for anything that we ordered. When questioned waitress she pointed to handwritten amount at end of bill and said that's your bill, I said know no we want it itemised. Waited ages again and amounts totally different from first bill, mine more, others less, but at least correct this time. I wont be going back here again, 3 strikes and you're out.
Dinner at Miro's Garden Restaurant Jl Raya. Couldn't get a table at Café De Artistles so walked to end of lane to Miros. Asked a couple coming out of entrance what food was like. They said very nice and cheap too. So up we went. Niece commented what a lovely romantic setting with soft candlelight and garden seating. We did have a lovely romantic dinner us 2 mums and 2 daughters. How beautiful my daughters blue eyes looked in the flicking candlelight.
We were all so tired after our big day it was hard to work out what to eat. I had nasi goreng v nice, meat pieces on top little tough but tasty, shredded egg all over (which I fed to a friendly kitten visitor much to my daughters disapproval), my daughter was so excited on finding Vegemite on the menu (another thing I had packed but left at home) and ordered a Vegemite and cheese sandwich - unfortunately theyd run out of Vegemite so she ordered Brushetta (me and spellchecker don't know how to spell this either, its that Italian thick toasted bread with tomato salsa stuff on it) this was way to spicy and hot for her so we swapped and I enjoyed it. Others had chicken satay which they declared was very very nice maybe almost as nice as the one I had at lunchtime. Aga hatten white wine was very nice and I think 27,000 (too tired to write price last night now going by wobbly memory) cant remember what everyone else drank, suffice to say we all had v nice dinner and drinks and would eat there again.
Back at hotel me and kids went for a swim, little cold but lovely pool and woke up and refreshed us all. A little too cold for daughter so she left to have first shower, and back a while later with the bad news no hot water. Bad news as neice and I had just got shivering out of pool. Hotel told us gas bottle had run out, now replaced and hot water in 10 mins. Couldn't wait so had cold shower not too bad considering.
Off to markets and brekkie now, cant wait - only had stale crispy crème donut since waking up at 5.30am (at least Im sleeping in now).
