Cannot help you with the hotels, we alsways stay in sanur but have never stayed in either of those, but would say that La Taverna is in a better spot, Mercure is down the very south end of the beach walk.
As Liem said the toys are not that great and the real brand ones are just as expensive as here. In regards to kids clothes, there are loads in the market stalls but quality can be a bit hit and miss, but have found nice clothes in the big department stores.
When will you be in Sanur, my son and I are staying at the Besikah between the 5th till the 8th (but may extend till the 12th) ??
